I love type 4s.. With just a big bore kit, 96mm cyls, make it 1911cc...Slip in the case and flycut the head.. Mine lasted 14yrs of true hot rod abuse.. I would have gone thru several type 1 engines to match it.. Lots of low end power and good power all the time. No need for a radical cam.. simple port matching and a 3 angle valve job .. and a mild cam for an easy daily driver and fast hot rod when you punch it.. I got pretty good fuel ecomomy too..
