PostSubject: It never ends   8/2/2010, 8:13 pm

First topic message reminder :

One could reason the more crap you put on your car the more issues you have. I have A LOT of crap on my car. LOL. Where do I start. I have noticed my car wasn't running real good lately. Jerry made the comment at the Country Market that It didn't like to idle, and he was right. I spent all day at my buddies house wrenching on this thing only to find out I was only running 3/4 throttle. Some how the throttle cable slipped and being the TPS is calibrated on a wide open throttle, the cars ECU was trying to compensate a bad air/fuel mix but it was getting bad readings.
We messed with it most of the day to find a torn intake gasket...so one cylinder was either lean or rich depending on if its on boost or not. So tomorrow its off to NAPA for some gasket material.
On a good note. We installed a pair of 8000k HID head lights (very cool). The front sway bar was next and after some grinding on the lower control arm it seemed to clear good enough. My car has the turning radius of a school bus due to the wider rims and tires I have up front. After that we installed a new cylinder head temp gauge. Its a custom one made using a VDO cylinder head temp gauge then I took off the face and a buddy of mine that dose wraps for boats made me an AutoMeter face plate to go over it! Bling!! A one of a kind gauge....SWEET.
All in all aside from the air?fuel issues, it was a productive day in the garage.

Well all I seem to have in my thread is all the bad stuff that happens to my car. Now let me post some good stuff.
I have bought brake rotors in the past from this company called R1 Concepts. I like their stuff and they can make you ANYTHING. They had a Cyber Monday sale and I'm on their mailing list. I picked up these sett rotors for my 924 S Porsche rear trailing arms.

I have been researching gasket material that will stand up to Methanol and found some and am now running that for my intake gaskets. For the first time in a long time ( before the valve seat failure) I am happy with the way the car is running. I know I just jinxed it ,but I had to say it. It idles perfectly and the clacking noise I thought was coming from my new cam was a push rod jammed into a rocker arm. I changed it all out and now it sounds great.

PostSubject: Re: It never ends   2/3/2011, 11:19 pm

Next in line for my bug saga goes like this. Being this was my first "from the ground up" build I wanted to go over the top. I think I went to far tho. I want a car I can show but yet is functional to drive, what I wound up with was a trailer queen. I spend more time working on it and waiting for parts than enjoying it and all of you. SO...We are changing things up a bit. OFF goes the fuel injection and turbo kit along with the 911 fan shroud. ON goes a doghouse type tins and a draw thru turbo system with a 500 Holly.
I know I'm going to loose a few cool look points with this set up but I think I will get to drive it more and wrench less.
I ordered the new turbo kit today and it should be here in a couple months.

I find it funny and fitting at the same time that a vw mag has a four page spread of a car that, at the moment, is not running. Not a jab, just a humorous observation. Either way, congrats! That car (and I guess you too Rolling Eyes ) deserve to be in there. Now get that panel ready for next months issue!
